Failover Clustering in wider sense is designed to maintain the system against hardware failure. Windows clustering allows more hardware to act out parts as one in impact, a platform. Such hardware part in any cluster is called cluster node.
Any windows cluster has a special name that identifies, and is associated with the IP address. Cluster name is registered in DNS and can be seen in networks. All together with the cluster nodes should be in the Windows domain and must be configured in the same domain.

It also must have a domain account that you will use to administer the cluster. Don’t forget never, during the process of establishing a quorum database, which means a distribution disk that contains all the configuration information for the cluster. But the quorum drive is accessed recover from a node to cluster at any time.
While all other nodes in the cluster can not access this drive, in case of failure, another node takes ownership of the disk.

Cluster group means the group/collection of one ore more cluster resources.
Cluster resource understood everything that is allowed to be managed by planning to do or configure in a server.

 INFO: All these features mentioned above, show or identified as components of a Windows cluster. Through which we enable a configuration, proper functioning of the cluster.

Once you have completed the construction and configuration of the Windows cluster, you can install the SQL Server instances in the cluster.

SQL Server clusters may be of one-instance or multi-instances.

Active/Active indicates that the applications used on all cluster nodes.
Active/Passive indicates that the applications uses only one node in the cluster.

For failover clustered SQL Server instance to be configured components are as follows:

  • IP addresses
  • Network names
  • Disk drives on the shared drive
  • SQL Server Services
  • Service Accounts
